I wasn't expecting Holly Madison to pick a baby name like Charlotte or Elizabeth for her daughter – you knew she was going to lean more toward the Moxie Crimefighter or Apple end of the celebrity baby-naming spectrum. And in fact, she chose a name that's pretty close to spectrum – Rainbow. As in, Rainbow Brite. Or, apparently like someone she went to school with years ago – People.com is reporting that a former classmate is the inspiration for Holly's baby name. That, and the fact that Holly wanted to pick a truly unique name. And that she has. She has also, according to our naming expert compadres at Nameberry, chosen the "the dippiest of hippie names" for her child.
The middle name she chose with it, Aurora, means dawn. it's a Latin name, and it's currently residing in the top 200 names in the country. It's a nice, classic name – perfect for if her daughter is a little bit more conservative and buttoned up than Holly herself.
While the name she picked doesn't suit my taste, put together, Rainbow Aurora does have a lovely, nature-y vibe. I probably would have swapped the names, and led with Aurora (but that's probably my conservative baby-naming side coming out).
What do you think of Holly Madison's new daughter's name? Is Rainbow destined to go down as a goofy celebrity baby name, or do you think it's a trend that could catch on?
