The Today Show's Jenna Wolfe and her partner, NBC foreign correspondent Stephanie Gosk, welcomed a baby girl today. Harper Estelle Wolfeld Gosk was born at 7:31 this evening. (Talk about getting the news out fast!)
Harper may have started out a boys' name, but now it's really strictly for the girls—it's one of the top 25 most popular names for ladies, and has been associated with the To Kill a Mockingbird author Harper Lee and the offspring of everyone from Neil Patrick Harris to David and "Posh Spice" Victoria Beckham. It's a name that means "harp player."
Estelle is a vintage name that means star—it had dropped out of the top 1000 names in the U.S. back in 1960, but suddenly blipped back on the radar last year. Maybe this name, most commonly associated with Golden Girls actress Estelle Getty, is finally ready for its comeback? Personally I kind of prefer Stella to Estelle, at least as far as old-school "star" names go (probably due to its association with Streetcar Named Desire), but Estelle is a good choice, too.
Wolfeld and Gosk are obviously the couple's surnames.
What do you think of Harper and Estelle? Do you like either name? And would you prefer something uberpopular like Harper, or more off-the-radar like Estelle?
