When your mom's named Busy and your big sister is Birdie, it's only natural that your name won't be plain Jane. So Busy Philipps and her husband Marc Silverstein gave their daughter another nod to the animal kingdom: Joining big sis Birdie Leigh is Cricket Pearl.
Cricket is obviously a nod to the jumpy little insect. There aren't too many other people bearing the name, other than a character on Young and the Restless who used it as a nickname, and a talking doll that was popular in the 1980s. It has a cheerful vibe to it, even if it is a bit offbeat to name your kid after an insect.
Pearl is another word name, but with a much more elegant meaning—it makes a lovely middle name (and could even make a great first name, if Cricket decides her name is a bit too offbeat for her personality).
Obviously, pairing Cricket with Birdie is kind of a fun little naming thing—though is it worrisome that crickets are often prey for birds? Personally, I can't ever see myself picking Cricket for one of my children, but with that family set—and the California/celebrity vibe, it works.
What do you think of Busy's baby names? Is Cricket cool and fresh, or too far out there for your taste?
