You Can Make a Cute Christmas Tree Skirt From a Tablecloth

Tree skirts sure have come a long way since their humble beginnings. Originally, when candles were used to light up Christmas trees, any old fabric was placed along the trunk to catch falling wax — and that\’s not very glamorous. These days, you can make your tree skirt as fashionable as the branches above it with modern fabric and a matching tassel detail. Goodbye wax and hello good design!

Step 1: Fold and Cut Out the Center Circle

Fold the tablecloth in half once, and then in half again, so that it\’s in quarters. Place a glass over the center point created by the folds. Trace around the glass and cut on this line to create an opening in the center of the tree skirt.

Step 2: Cut From Edge to Center

Lay the tablecloth out on a flat surface and cut a straight line from the outer-edge to the center opening.

Step 3: Press and Sew Raw Edges

Fold 1/4-inch of the raw edge created by the cut toward the wrong side of the fabric and press. Then, fold another 1/4-inch in and press again.

Sew along the folded edge to finish the raw edge. Do this for both raw edges.

Tip

If you\’re using a vinyl tablecloth, you can skip this sewing step because the vinyl won\’t fray.

Step 4: Attach Hook and Loop Fasteners

Remove the backing on the hook and loop fasteners and attach them along the opening of the fabric.
